The SEP
About Us
Our history began in 1949, when Víctor García Hoz and a group of collaborators founded the SEP with a fundamental mission: to support education professionals and contribute to the development of pedagogical knowledge in Spain.
Based at the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), we promote initiatives to revitalize the educational landscape in complex times. The creation of the journal Bordón and the organization of conferences were our first major instruments to foster debate and open new avenues of research.
Today, the SEP continues its work with an open outlook towards the future, promoting collaboration, critical thinking, and innovation.
Our main lines of action are:
- Pedagogy Congresses (national and international): We have organized Congresses continuously since 1959. Since 2000, we have also promoted Ibero-American Congresses in countries such as Mexico, Chile, and Argentina.
- Bordón Journal: We publish Bordón. Journal of Pedagogy, our scientific publication of international impact, on a quarterly basis.
- Academic Promotion: We promote pedagogy within the university sphere and actively strengthen educational research networks.
- University-School Relationship: We work to find synergies and facilitate knowledge transfer between universities and schools.
- Public Debate Engagement: We offer an expert and verified voice in the debate on educational policies, both at non-university and university levels, enabling dialogue with the Educational Administration and the media.
